On July 5-6, 2019, the first international forum on “Freedom of Expression and Judicial Ethics” was held by the initiative of office of independent inspector.
The purpose of the forum was to share experience of international practice in the field of freedom of expression and judicial ethics.
The participants of the forum discussed the international practice of freedom of expression of the judges, the general legal framework of the judge’s behavior in social networks and the specific experiences of different countries. The International experts provided the forum participants with recommendations about the peculiarities of the usage of social networks by judges.
On the first day, the representatives of the judiciary, government, international and non-governmental organizations, foreign experts participated in the forum. On the second day, the independent inspector, the members of the working group on the code of ethics and members of disciplinary collegium of judges of common courts, as well as the representatives of international organizations and invited experts participated in the above-mentioned forum.
On the second day of the international forum, together with international experts, independent inspector, judges and the members of the working group on the code of ethics, summarized the recommendations suggested within the forum.
The event was organized by the office of independent inspector with the support of the Council of Europe, The Judiciary Support Project of EU and the program of USAID – “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia”.
